Chronic pain affects nearly 100 million people in the country, making it a growing concern for individuals who suffer from conditions of muscle tension and other complications around the body. Dry needling is a technique to treat pain impairments and those that suffer from frequent triggers of pain throughout their body.

Is Dry Needling Painful?

Dry needling is a treatment that involves the insertion of a very thin needle into and around a Myofascial Trigger Point, which are knots in the muscles that cause reduced flexibility, pain, and decreased range of motion. Dry needling has multiple effects that include the breakdown of adhesions in the muscle, reduction in inflammation, and less stress on the central and local nervous system.

Most people don’t even feel the insertion of the needle, the only response a patient may have is a brief cramp from a local twitch response.

What Can Dry Needling Treat?

The most common conditions dry needling can treat but are not limited to include:

  • Muscle strains
  • Chronic pain
  • Sciatica
  • Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS)
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
